Anwar Harland-Khan
| Background: | Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit and joie de vivre, Anwar spent many years working with luxury brands before he entered the world of international property development. He consolidated his passion of high end design and property investment by co-founding MHK International in 2002. |
| Role: | Managing Director |
| Him on him: | Nerves of steel. Apart from when it comes to large dogs. |
| Us on him: | A visionary, focused (and possibly quite smart) guy with a talent for looking at the bigger picture and moving things forward regardless of circumstances. And in case his ego explodes we should point out that he is also an expert in losing his keys and phone and has been known to do extraordinary impressions of a launching swan in public places! |
| Floats his boat: | Warm jam doughnuts |
| Gets his goat: | Whingers. Computer says no. |
Riaz Khan
| Background: | Not satisfied with the ‘easy life’ of being a highly successful and world renowned orthopaedic surgeon, Riaz co-founded MHK in 2002. He has an instinct for property investment and exceptional ability to manage finances. |
| Role: | Director of finance |
| Him on him: | I’m a man who gets things done: I don’t take ‘no’ for an answer, and there is a solution to every problem (an attribute not generally appreciated by my wife). |
| Us on him: | Riaz has so much zing, zest and zeal, that we’re considering selling his excess energy back to the national grid, we think it could be quite lucrative. He’s doggedly determined, balanced, fair and can be as stubborn as a mule. |
| Floats his boat: | Sun, snow and good red wine |
| Gets his goat: | Negativity and pessimism |
Nick Gowing
| Background: | Having spent the last 14 years specialising in high-end residential projects in London, Nick jumped at the chance on working on the concept for L’Amandier. The chance of re-intertpreting the typical Morrocan style for the twenty-first century was too much to pass by, and I hope that the last 3 years work has shown what can be achieved when local traditions and western demands meet – harmoniously |
| Role: | The Architect |
| Him on him: | I love my job, and hope that the end result shows that. Surely the odd tantrum can be forgiven in the pursuit of perfection… |
| Us on him: | The consummate professional, uncompromising when it comes to quality, doesn’t suffer from precious architect syndrome, although he does have occasional (and amusing to watch) toy throwing outbursts. A true gentleman. |
| Floats his boat: | Timeless, elegant, and well considered simplicity, and Jennie getting her own way |
| Gets his goat: | Swearing, bad manners & unflattering photography |
Jennie Harland-Khan
| Background: | One of the founding members of Street League, a pioneering UK charity, Jen has exceptional skills in communication and client care. |
| Role: | Director of Marketing & Communications |
| Her on her: | I avidly stick by my mantra ‘It will all work out’ with the occasional wobble. How can it not with this lot on board? |
| Us on her: | Jen brings to MHK a rare quality of design and functionality. She possesses unabashed honesty, she definitely knows what she wants and usually gets her way. A professional yummy mummy, juggling work, children and everything in between. Oh and she’s pretty nifty when it comes to baking chocolate cakes! |
| Floats her boat: | Underfloor heating |
| Gets her goat: | Pretentiousness |
Mikaela Fenton-Jones
| Background: | The ultimate chameleon who has worked in project management roles across the globe, including Vietnam, South Africa, and Australia. Her ability to organise projects and galvanise people have become an invaluable asset to MHK. |
| Role: | Marrakech based Project Manager |
| Her on her: | I love the unexpected twists and turns of life, the challenge of new places and projects. And adventures; however large or small. |
| Us on her: | An adventurous soul with the organisational skills of a military general, she has a habit of sometimes talking to and even stroking inanimate objects (her car, her laptop, her phone…?!). She’s our girl on the ground and what a safe pair of hands. |
| Floats her boat: | Genuine belly laughter and mangos |
| Gets her goat: | Being cold |
Philippe Fargeix
| Background: |
After falling in love with a dilapidated riad in Marrakech many years ago, he took a break from his investment banking life in France and hasn’t looked back since. A veteran of the property business in Morocco he brings invaluable experience and knowledge to the project. |
| Role: | Sales Manager |
| Him on him: | I know and love the Ouirgane valley and the magical surrounding mountains, and had always wondered why no-one had thought to build beautiful villas in this area. So when Anwar approached me to work on this project, I didn’t hesitate and immediately agreed. I had just finished a development in Marrakech and wanted to try something really different. |
| Us on him: | As chilled out as they come, Philippe possesses infinite patience, an excellent sense of humour and a cheeky French charm. Despite occasional appearances to the contrary he is actually very organised and bizarrely likes to work between the hours of 2 and 4am. |
| Floats his boat: | Travelling and having adventures |
| Gets his goat: | Bad restaurants and traffic jams |
Said Id Salah
| Background: | Fluent in 4 languages (with an inspired turn of English phrase), Said has been with MHK from the start when he introduced Riaz to the L’Amandier land. He is instrumental in dealing with the administration, overseeing the site, coming up with genius ideas and generally keeping everyone on track. |
| Role: | Site manager |
| Him on him: | Having been born and lived here in Ouirgane, I always prefer to work outdoors. I am diligent at my work and I try to get my day list tasks done when I can. |
| Us on him: | Tenacious as a terrier, Said is the ultimate solver of headaches and problems. He’s a thinker and a man of action and one of the most resourceful people we know. Said puts us to shame when it comes to general knowledge and current affairs. He studies the world in detail, from the geography of London (which he has not yet visited) to the Obama administration. He the font of all knowledge when it comes to the Ouirgane Valley and surrounding areas. Come to think of it, make that the font of all knowledge generally and importantly he does a formidable impression of an eccentric English aristocrat. |
| Floats his boat: | Walking, thinking, and watching Fawlty Towers (especially Manuel). |
| Gets his goat: | Being at the MHK office or heading to the hustle and bustle of the city. |
