Site visit (29 May)

On site on Saturday morning were myself, Philippe, Said, Sherif (the contractor) and the ironmonger who will be making the external window and door frames. The patio doors in the salon (and the bedrooms) are floor to ceiling and provide an unrestricted view of the surrounding mountains. The ironwork is forged by hand and it was important that our guy had a complete understanding of the folding mechanisms and the measurements and where better to visualise than on site in the villas themselves.

We also tested the chimneys for the draw and I’m pleased to say that it was strong and smoke most definitely went upwards instead of outwards! The olive wood that Said had collected for this purpose smelled great as it burnt; we were just missing the marshmallows to roast…

Samples of the outside render finish were also there for us to deliberate. We had a split vote, so it’s down to the UK/Australia team to add their thoughts to the pot…
