The Khan brothers have always had an interest in property investment and development. They started on the relentless path of buying and redeveloping flats in London and Cambridge, working tirelessly alongside Jane, at weekends stripping, sanding, painting, rebuilding. Their enthusiasm stretched, they would wearily pack up tools and head back into work on a Monday, Riaz and Jane on their path to becoming consultant surgeons and Anwar running a London marketing agency.
They developed a knack for finding good investment opportunities and it became apparent to Anwar that this is what made him tick. The search for new opportunities grew as did horizons, and the international scene beckoned. Big changes were afoot for us – a move out to the country, the wrapping up of the agency and the decision to focus fulltime on MHK. Oh, and the small change of our first baby on the way.
MHK International Ltd now has investments and developments in Morocco, Bulgaria, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and Norway. It’s been hard work and a huge but exciting learning curve.
I have aged somewhat, although that may well be more due to our two small whippersnappers that have entered our world. I now work in the business having found it impossible to continue the commute to London to continue in my role at Street League (check it out, it is a fabulous charity using football as a tool to engage the disadvantage).
Oh the constant struggle between running a business and children!
